Richard Joseph Nelson 1949 December 10, 2014 Richard Joseph Nelson passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 in Aspen, Colorado at the age of 65. Rick was born and raised in Portland and graduated from Portland High School in 1967. Following graduation he served in the Air National Guard during the 1970's. A former resident of Cape Elizabeth, and Southampton, NY, Rick followed his passion for skiing into the mountains and was most recently a resident of Aspen, CO. A natural born salesman, Rick parlayed his skills into his lifelong career in sales. Rick was an avid tennis player, skier, and art and music enthusiast. One of his favorite pastimes was spending time with his children skiing at Sugarloaf, the mountain where he taught them to ski. Rick was fun loving, optimistic, and will be remembered most for his sense of humor, impeccable fashion sense, and love for his family and those close to him. Rick was predeceased by his parents George G. Nelson and Josephine 'Lulu' Nelson. He is survived by his three children, Mariah E. Nelson and fiancé Scott N. Werner of Falmouth, Hillary W. Nelson of Boston, MA and Harper W. Nelson of Boulder, CO, sister Carol J. Milliken and brother George G. Nelson Jr., of Portland, and brother Robert C. Nelson and sister-in-law Donata of Falmouth, along with many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, December 17th from 4-8pm at A.T. Hutchins Funeral & Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Ave, Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am, Thursday, December 18th at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 72 Federal St. in Portland. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
