Richard ""Dick"" Michael Gonyea December 30, 1950 September 26, 2014 Richard ""Dick"" Michael Gonyea, 63, of Portland passed away at Maine Medical Center on September 26, 2014 following a long illness. Dick was born in Portland to Henry Gonyea and the late Marie (Oullette) Goyea on December 30, 1950. Dick worked as a route salesman delivering bread for many years. Dick coached, mentored, and umpired for over 40 years as a volunteer. Dick began coaching youth sports in his early twenties as a volunteer donating his time and money to purchase awards for the end of year banquet. He later began coaching and first coached in Gorham. And later became involved with the Little Leagues in Portland where he coached and umpired. He was proud to build the league from 4 teams to a league encompassing three fields and 29 teams. Dick was involved with every aspect of youth sports and was admired by many of the kids he helped along the way. He also coached basketball starting with the Boys and Girls Club of Portland and later for Lincoln Middle School as well as coaching and umpiring Girl's Softball. Survived by his loving father, Henry Gonyea of Windham, his sister Mary Labrecque and her husband Peter Labrecque of Gorham, his brother, Steven Gonyea and wife Debbie Gonyea of Windham, his brother David Gonyea from Auburn and his brother Daniel Gonyea and wife Cyndi Gonyea from Weston, MA. Richard also leaves behind his loving nieces and nephew, Wendy Parent, Lynde Jackson, Jennifer Gonyea, Ben Gonyea, Jessica Labrecque, Natalia Gonyea along with several aunts and uncles and many, many friends including his former wife and best friend, Donna Madison. Family and friends are invited to visiting hours from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday September 30, 2014 at A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Ave. Portland, ME 04102. On Wednesday, October 1, 2014 an hour of visitation will be held from 11:00 to Noon with a memorial service following at noon. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
