Richard D. Johnson Portland- Richard D. "Dicka" Johnson, 92, of 33 Northwood Drive, died August 14, 2025, at the home of his dear friend, Patricia Franciose, who cared for him in his last days. Mr. Johnson was born October 4, 1932, in South Windham, the son of the late Norman D. and Frances Dube Johnson. He attended local schools and graduated from Portland High. At Portland High, Mr. Johnson was an outstanding member of the Bulldogs' 1950 State Championship basketball team. Shortly, thereafter, Richard was drafted into the Army and served two years during the Korean War. He worked for 28 years as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, for more than twenty years, he delivered the mail to the residents of Peaks Island, a route he enjoyed a great deal. Mr. Johnson was an exceptional golfer and belonged to the Riverside Golf Course for more than 50 years. In his retirement, he spent many winters in Florida, where he played dozens of rounds of golf per month. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was predeceased by his siblings, Norman "Lefty" Johnson and Dorothy L. Freeman. There will be a Private Graveside Service at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
