Obituary

Richard "Rick" Piacentini passed away peacefully at Gosnell Hospice House on Monday, June 19th after a seven month battle with cancer. He was 71 years old and to those who were fortunate enough to know Rick, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Rick was born November 2nd, 1951 in Portland to Barbara and John Piacentini. On June 22nd, 1985 he married Maryann (Caiazzo) Piacentini in Portland where they raised their family. He attended local schools growing up and was a 1970 graduate of Cheverus High School. While at Cheverus Rick played football, baseball, and basketball. He then went on to graduate from UMPG(USM) where he played baseball for the Huskies. He continued his love of baseball by helping coach American Legion Caldwell Post with his longtime friend Ed Flaherty. Rick spent most of his working years as owner and proprietor of Forest Gardens Bar and Grille. Most days and nights you could find Rick behind the bar pouring beers, cracking jokes, and making lifelong friends. In his spare time, he could be found watching the Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics as well as his children in various sporting events throughout their childhood years.  Rick was predeceased by his parents John and Barbara Piacentini. He is survived by his wife Maryann, Son Ryan Piacentini and wife Jamie of Cumberland, and Daughter Jill Nelson and husband Patrick of Westbrook. He also leaves behind the lights of his life; his grandchildren, Coleman Nelson and Sonny and Stefano Piacentini. He will be missed by his brother Jim and sisters Anne (Carl) Dudley, Jeanne (Mac) McKew and Theresa (Bennett) Luja and lifelong friend Vinny Ciampi among others. The family will be forever grateful for the compassionate care that Rick received at New England Cancer Specialists, Hospice of Southern Maine, and the staff at the Gosnell House. Visitation will be held Saturday July 1st from 1-5pm at A.T. Hutchins Funeral home, 660 Brighton Ave Portland. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
