Richard L. Engelhardt February 13, 1937 March 11, 2014 Portland - Richard L. Engelhardt, 77, of Portland passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at the Barron Center, following a long illness. He was born on February 13, 1937, the son of the late Nora and Frederick Engelhardt. He was raised in South Portland where he graduated from South Portland High School in 1955. On July 5, 1958, he married the love of his life, Linda Charron. They moved to Westbrook where together they raised their six children. Richard served for 4 years in the National Guard in South Portland and was employed by Nissen's Bakery where he retired after 35 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, singing in the church chorus, gardening, wood working as well as many other hobbies. He considered himself to be a layman minister and was always eager to share his genuine Christian faith. He was predeceased by his daughter, Susan Richard and a brother, Ronald Engelhardt. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda, his daughter, Karen Rand and fiancé Kevin McWatters of Somerville, MA, son, Daniel Engelhardt and wife Cheryl of Scarborough, daughter, Laurie Perham and husband Dan of Naples, daughter, Sherry Rainsford and fiancé Tom Myers of Raymond, son, Roy Engelhardt and wife Kathryne of Port Charlotte, FL, son in law, Raymond Richard of Portland, his brother Robert Engelhardt and wife Simone of Pittsfield, brother Roger Engelhardt of Plymouth, sister Dawna Frost of Chattanooga, TN as well as 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A church service and celebration of life will be held at Life Church, 8 Elkins Rd. in Gorham on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 11:00 am.
