Richard J. Catir, Jr. June 26, 1947 June 12, 2016 Portland - Richard J. Catir, Jr., 68, died peacefully at the Barron Center, on June 12, 2016, after struggling courageously with Alzheimer's Disease for 16 years. He was born in Portland Maine, on June 26, 1947, the son of Richard J. Catir, Sr. and Helen (Kenny) Catir. Richard graduated from Deering High School, where he was a member of the band and drama club. He was also a graduate of the University of Maine. He worked for a time as a waiter for John Martin's Merry Manor restaurants. He went on to be a manager with Friendly's and Brigham's Ice Cream Shops in Boston, Massachusetts. For a short time, Richard was a beautician owning his own beauty shop on Free Street in Portland. Richard had a passion for Labrador Retrievers, especially ""Raggin"" his faithful four-legged friend of many years ago. Richard was predeceased by his mother. He is survived by his father; a sister, Katherine Anthoine, who lovingly watched over him at the Barron Center for many years; a brother-in-law, Stephen Anthoine, all of Scarborough. He is also survived by a son, Mark Anthony Catir, Sr.; his companion Cindy Russell, a grandson, Mark Anthony Catir, Jr.; Cindy's daughter Mary Russell all of Georgia and an uncle, Victor Catir of Florida. Special thanks to the staff of the Barron Center for all their great care and to Richard's personal care-taker Donna Record. A Memorial Mass with be celebrated on Friday June 17, 2016 at 10 am at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Road, Scarborough, ME 04074. Interment will follow at Forest City Cemetery.
