Peter Joseph Scala December 24, 1955 April 28, 2016 Windham- Peter Joseph Scala, 60, died peacefully on April 28th at the Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine. He bravely battled cancer for three-and-a-half years. Peter was born December 24, 1955 in Portland to Clement L. and Maria A. (DiMillo) Scala. Peter and his brothers grew up in East Deering in a close-knit Italian community. He was a member of St. Peter's church - baptized and raised in that parish. At an early age, Peter showed interest in music and sports. He was a former member of the Columbia Social and Athletic Club and loved to participate in field days. Peter graduated from Portland High School, Class of 1974. He excelled in school, playing on the basketball team and fostering his love for music. Peter went on to play in many bands in the 70s and 80sa€""most notably, perhaps, Dahomi and Mystery. Although Peter thrived at most instruments, he was the keyboardist in his bands. Peter met his wife, Linda (Perron), in 1984 and the two married May 31, 1986. At the time, he was working for Southern Maine Optical, a business he stayed with for over 40 years. Peter had a love for gardening, often using his crop to concoct meals in the kitchen. He was an avid Food Network watcher and perused the Discovery Channel frequently. Peter was known for his ability to ""MacGyver"" his way out of practically every situation and put that skill to good use on many family camping trips at Four Seasons campground. In addition to Peter's parents, he is predeceased by his mother-in-law, Theresa (Pelletier) Perron, his brother-in-law, Peter Perron, and his nephew, Adam Perron. He will be sadly missed by his survivors: his wife, Linda, daughters, Sara Perkins and her husband, Zacary of Windham, Rachel and her partner, Jonathan Bolduc of Windham, and his son, Matthew of Windham; three grandchildren, Willow, Rowan and Phoenix Perkins; two brothers, Anthony and John Scala, both of Portland; brothers-in-law, Jeff Perron and his wife, Dianne Parker of Bridgton, Bruce Perron and his wife, Tena of Windham, Mark Perron and his wife, Vicki of Cape Coral, Florida, David Perron and his wife, Stephanie of Gorham, and sister-in-law, Angela Perron of Ellsworth; father-in-law, Raymond Perron of Gorham and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Peters Church, Portland on Friday, May 6 at 10 A.M. Burial will follow in the New Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
