Peter John Chadbourne Sr. June 14, 1948 November 27, 2016 PETER JOHN CHADBOURNE SR. Gorham-- Peter John Chadbourne Sr., 68, passed away following a courageous battle with cancer November 27, 2016, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born June 14, 1948, in Portland the son of the late Walter G. and Margaret E. (Herwood) Chadbourne. Peter attended Portland High School. Following high school he worked at Songo Shoe Factory and then Maine Roofing Company. On July 3, 1971 he married the love of his life, Patricia O'Neal and they settled in Limington. Here they created a loving home where they raised their 5 children. Peter was an exceptional provider for his family. For over 20 years he was employed at the Wetterau/Supervalu Center. He retired from the Scarborough Police Department after 11 years, due to his illness, in March of 2016 where he served as their ""Chief of Sanitation Engineer"" and number one ""Elvis impersonator"". He was an important part of their family and truly loved. Peter was loved by all who knew him. His family and friends were above all the most important to him. He was a selfless individual, always caring for others and considering their needs above his, even in his illness and before his passing. He loved Elvis and could sing just like the ""King"" himself. Christmas was his favorite holiday. Buying presents for his family, especially his grandchildren, was what he looked forward to the most. He loved to sing, tell stories, make others laugh, and always wanted to make sure they were fed and cared for. His loyalty and devotion to his family and friends will never be forgotten. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Walter G ""Juny"" Chadbourne, and a sister, Adelaide Nadeau, along with brother in laws William M. Darling Sr. and Maurice Noble. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Patty, 2 sons, Peter Jr. and his wife Angella of Scarborough, James and his wife Heather of Buxton, 3 daughters, Marymargaret Weirick and husband Scott of Limington, Elizabeth Williams and husband Russell of Buxton, Tricia Hersey and husband Justin of Standish. He is also leaving behind 13 grandchildren who he loved and adored; Matthew Haskell and Libby Chadbourne, Corey, Joshua, and Danielle Chadbourne, Julia, Rose, Lily and Scotty Weirick, Mason and Ethan Williams, and Ava and Mya Hersey . He is also survived by 5 brothers, Harold and wife Josephine of South Portland, Thomas and wife Carol of South Portland, Clinton and wife Bonnie of Portland, Robert and wife Linda of Portland, Ronald and wife April of Scarborough, 2 sisters Mary Darling of South Portland and Lillian Noble of Windham as well as many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough for the quality of care he received and the compassion the family experienced while there. They would also like to express their deepest gratitude for the men and women of the Scarborough Police Department, and Fire and Rescue. The love and respect you showed to Peter and our family while he was employed and during his illness and passing is overwhelming. Visiting hours will be held 4-7 P.M,. Thursday, Dec. 1, at A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Avenue, Portland. A funeral service will take place at Woodfords Congregational Church, Portland on Friday at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, 1461 Broadway, South Portland. Donations may be made to the New England Cancer Specialists or the Scarborough Police Department's Operation Hope program.
