Obituary

Nicholas Peter Davies, 37, heartbreakingly rode a wave into the other realm at his family home on February 23, 2022. Nick blasted onto the planet a month early on this day March 6, 1984, the sixth child to Bettye [Ridge] Davies and Frederick John Davies and youngest sibling to two brothers [Chris and Rick] and three sisters [Lisa, Stacia, and Kassia]. Six years later, his niece, with whom he adoringly referred to as his little sister, Ellie, was born. He was named after Saint Nick. His birth is in family record books as the only time Nicky Pete was early for anything. Nicholas made up time with tremendous bear hugs, team high-fives, crispy bacon at brunches, and an electrifying smile that lit up every room. Emulating his namesake, Nick had a childlike enthusiasm and an unconditional loving heart for all walks and waters of life.  A natural scholar and athlete, Nick was an adorable charming smart a$$, completing older siblings' math homework whilst correcting grammatical errors during his elementary years. Nicknamed "Nick Natural" when he'd seamlessly switch baseball mitts from his dominant hand when his arm grew tired, his father also recalled when Nick was late to soccer games, he'd make up time, scoring goal after goal. Up until a few years ago, Nick played basketball weekly with local community teams. Shredding on every board he ventured whether it was surf, snow or skate, "Rerun," as his boarding families named him - chased the waves to the coast of Jakarta, Indonesia. Befriending everyone in his travels, before heading home, Nick donated his belongings to kids working charter boats and returned with whittled wooden bracelets and necklaces they gifted him. Boarding to his own beat, Nick was waking up the neighborhood since 1984. Discovering percussion in elementary school during a neighbor's party where Grammy Award winning and H.O.R.D.E. festival founding band, Blues Travelers performed, they encouraged kids to play on stage. "We'd never seen anyone crowd surf so fast. He was 9." Nick continued to play drums at one of his favorite homesteads - Randy Pelletier family. Nick spent years aboard custom built 34' Calvin Beals F/V Kelley Anne. Cruising offshore, crews worked six hours reeling 400lb Bluefin tuna. Nick loved sharing stories with his father, a former diver, describing dives in detail while under water to cut lines. Nick continued working with F/V Kelley Anne Owner Patrick Simmons and family. Nicholas will be celebrated Sunday with 38 Birthday candles, the aroma of his favorite coffee, salt of the sea, crackling fireplaces, basketball games, and chasing waves of his local surfing and fishing spots. Nicholas is predeceased by his mother, Bettye [2019]; eldest sister, Lisa [1999]; and paw pal "Bogey" [2020].  Nicholas leaves behind teams of families missing his inclusive heart, magnetic sweet soul and charismatic spirit: Daddio Fred; sister Stacia; sister Kassia [Jason] Decker; sister/niece Ellie Fleming; brother Rick; brother Chris; nieces Lucy [Rick] and Natalie [Kasi]; nephew Gavin [Ellie]; dogs Moose, Izzy, Rex & Denali. In lieu of services and flowers, the Davies family encourages donations in Nick's name to National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI Maine) and Maine Recovery Fund. A private observance of Nick's life will take place this summer on F/V Kelley Anne.
