Michael B. Scheinman August 17, 2012 Michael B. Scheinman, 68, of Westbrook, passed away peacefully in Portland on August 17, 2012 after a brief illness. Michael served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era where he was in intelligence operations. He was educated at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY and was a Chef's Apprentice at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. He was also in The Chef's Apprenticeship Exchange Program in Spain and France. He was a Certified Master Chef through the American Culinary Federation. Over the years, Michael worked at Flounders in Hyannis, Sports Illustrated in New York where he was a caterer, Lincoln Inn in Essex Junction, VT, Onion Creek Club in Austin, TX, Contract Management Consultant in Boston, Marriott In-Flight Services in Boston where he was an international flight chef. His most recent professional experience was Executive Chef at Diamond's Edge in Portland. During the last several years, Michael and his wife Anne owned and operated TAYDEN, a catering company they ran from their home named for their precious grandchildren, Taylor and Aiden. During his retirement, Michael became known as the neighborhood, ""cookie man"", regularly making cookies for the neighbors and their wonderful children. He was also known for his pizza night on Saturdays throughout the fall and winter for friends and family. His famous chicken fingers and french fries were favorites of his devoted grandchildren Taylor, who cooked with her Poppy from the time she was able to hold up her head and sit on her Poppy's hip, and Aiden who often built forts in the living room along with Poppy who was a bigger kid than they were. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Anne; daughter, Lindsey Hascall; beloved grandchildren, Taylor and Aiden Maxwell; brothers, Ben Sliney and his wife Irene of Seaford, NY, Bernie Sliney and his wife Beverly of Marble Falls, TX and George Sliney and his wife Marie of Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Michael is also survived by his devoted and constant canine companion Mika. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 10 AM on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at A.T. Hutchins, LLC, 660 Brighton Ave. Portland.
