Obituary

Michael “Happy” Martin, 78, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2026, surrounded by family. He was born on May 18, 1947, in Plymouth, MA, the son of the late Bradford and Dorothea (Rogers) Martin. Michael carried his proud Irish heritage with him throughout his life. He built his career as a professional house painter, a trade he took great pride in, leaving behind not just homes beautifully finished, but lasting impressions on the people he worked for and alongside.

Michael was a man who truly appreciated life’s simple joys. He enjoyed daily cribbage games with his beloved wife, Jacqueline “Jackie” Martin. Michael and Jackie also loved to travel, creating cherished memories together on trips to Ireland and Jamaica, places that both reflected Michael’s roots and his sense of adventure. At home, he found peace in his garden, where he had a special gift for growing tall, vibrant sunflowers that seemed to mirror his warm spirit.

Known for his ever-present sense of humor, Michael could make others smile even in the most ordinary moments. He was a kind and gentle soul who believed deeply in peace, love, and happiness, values he carried into every relationship in his life.

In addition to his parents, Michael was predeceased by his brother, Bruce Martin, and daughter, Jessica Mehringer. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Jackie Martin; son, Joshua Martin and his wife Jacqueline Martin; and daughters, Sara Berry-Dermody and her husband Christopher Dermody and Heather Berry and her husband Adam Bales. He was a proud grandfather of Sydney and Alexandra Martin, Janie Mehringer, Lia Dermody, and Avalynn Bales, all of whom brought him immense joy and pride.

Michael will be remembered for his laughter, his kindness, his love of family, and the beauty he brought into the world, whether through his work, his garden, or the lives he touched. His legacy of love, warmth, and quiet strength will live in all who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date to be determined.
