Meredith Robin (Crocker) Smith June 8, 1947 October 12, 2012 Portland - Meredith Robin (Crocker) of Falmouth and Monmouth passed peacefully Friday October 12, 2012, following a long illness and nearly 4 years to the day from the passing of her husband of 41 years, Richard Weston Smith of Falmouth and Jonesboro, Maine. She was born June 8, 1947, the oldest daughter of Forrest and Helen (Caswell) Crocker of Monmouth, Maine. When she passed gentle into that good night of country sleep, she took with her a curious mind, an artist's eye for nature and her wish to be needed by others. Robin is survived by her son Michael Smith and his daughters, Whitney and Madeline of Falmouth; son Christopher Smith, his wife Yukiko and son Spike of Brooklyn, New York; daughter, Bethany Smith and her children, Brittany and Joseph Alexander of Lisbon Falls; and her stepson Douglas Smith of South Portland, Maine. Robin's brother Philip Crocker and his wife, Carol of Colonia, New Jersey, brother Michael Crocker of Ojai, California, brother Dan and his wife Pat of Kingsbury, Maine and sister, Betsy Foote and her husband Mike of North Monmouth, Maine. She was a curious conversationalist who required one-on-one care for much of her life. While, too many to list here, our family would like to humble and gratefully acknowledge the tireless efforts of all of the medical personnel she came in contact with - everyone from her transportation team, to CNAs and nursing staff to support staff. Your kindness and effort are greatly appreciated. Robin spent the majority of her life dealing with crippling pain. She filled her days by talking with others, taking in nature's richness and, for a time, by volunteering with the Head Start Program in Cumberland, Maine. Robin graduated from Monmouth Academy and after her children were grown, she went to college and pursued a degree in social work from the University of Maine. She was a prolific artist with an eye for color and composition. Over 5 decades, she took thousands of pictures of Maine, archiving the adventures she shared with Richard as they travelled Maine's highways, back roads and country lanes. Our family would like to invite you to a celebration of her life on Saturday, October 20th at Camp Crocker in Monmouth, Maine. A celebration of her life will begin at 11 a.m. Final internment will take place at Forest Hills Cemetery in Jonesboro, Maine.
