Matthew Hutchins July 18, 1955 April 20, 2016 Scarborough - Matthew Hutchins, 60, passed away April 20, 2016 with his loving family by his side. Matt was born in Portland on July 18, 1955 the youngest child of Albert T. (Allie) and Joan Logan Hutchins. He attended Portland Schools graduating from Portland High School in 1973. During Matt's time at Portland High School he was the President of both his Sophomore and Senior classes. He ran track and was a quarterback for the football team. Because of his size, one area sportscaster called him the ""The Little Field General"". Matt went on to attend the University of Maine in Orono. While there he was an RA on One South in Oxford Hall. He was remembered as a great guy, one who would always be there for you. His academic degrees include a Bachelor of Arts, Political Science degree (summa cum laude) from the University of Maine in 1977, a Master of Public Administration degree (summa cum laude) from Texas Tech University in 1979, and a Juris Doctor degree from Texas Tech University in 1982. During law school, Matt was one of the Notes and Comments Editors of Texas Tech Law Review. He also received from the Texas Tech Law Review the Lead Article Award in 1984. Once Matt received his law degree, he went to work for the Shank, Irwin & Conant law firm in Dallas, TX, then moved on to the law firm of Andrews & Kurth. There he was a senior associate specializing in corporate and commercial finance, banking, mergers and acquisitions, oil and gas/real estate financing, corporate and securities law, and general business. After a few years, Matt became Vice President, International & Chief Legal Officer of SpectraVision, Inc., a publicly-held, company providing video entertainment programming and interactive services for the lodging and hospitality industry, worldwide. He was also one of the founding principals and Chief Executive Officer of The Tiger Group, L.L.C., a privately-held international and strategic business development consultancy specializing in the multimedia, interactive telecommunications and information technology industries. He represented clients that included GTE; BBN Corporation; Jinro Group/Gtv (Republic of South Korea); Storage Concepts, Inc.; and EDS. He formerly was President & CEO of BroadbandNOW, Inc., a leading provider of broadband data services to the multi-family residential and single family markets. Matt worked in partnership with residential multi-tenant unit property owners and emerging telecommunications providers, such as electric utilities, nationwide. During his tenure at BroadbandNOW, the company grew from 18 to 200 employees, and its network operations spanned 28 major metropolitan markets across the United States. Matt was a Lector for St. Rita Catholic Church in Dallas and one of his favorite things to do was to serve the homeless during the holidays at the Austin Street Shelter. Matt was predeceased by his father and mother; along with two sons, Matthew, Jr. and Christopher. He is survived by his daughters, Alexandria ""Alex"" Hutchins and Alivia ""Allie"" Hutchins, of Branson, MO. Matt is also survived by his two brothers, Michael Hutchins and his wife Donna of Cape Elizabeth and Mark Hutchins and his wife Roberta of Scarborough and his ex-wife, Toni Hutchins of Branson, MO. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. A special thank you to the staff of the Pine Point Center, in Scarborough; and the staff of the Hospice of Southern Maine. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, April 26th from 4-7 p.m. at A.T. Hutchins Funeral & Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Ave., Portland, Maine. On Wednesday April 27th, the Rosary will be recited at 8:45 a.m., followed a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peters Catholic Church, 72 Federal St., Portland at 10:00a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
