Mary K. Steele July 11, 1933 June 14, 2014 Mary K. Steele, nee Simpson, died peacefully June 14, 2014 at St. Joseph's Manor in Portland. She was born July 11, 1933 in Biddeford, Maine, the youngest of five children, to William H. Simpson and Lorene Stevens Simpson. Mary met her husband to be, Robert F. Steele, playing volleyball on Old Orchard Beach. They married August 11, 1950. Mary's life was centered on her six children, her cats and her home. She enjoyed reading mysteries, going to the beach, handiwork, shopping and visiting with family. She was especially proud of her Irish heritage that she credited for her faith, her strength, her sense of humor and her ""gift of gab"". Mary will be missed. She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, two sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her six children: Robert W. Steele and his wife Linda, Susan L. Steele and her husband Andrew Russell, Jeffrey M. Steele and his wife Pam, Kathleen L. Brouillette and her husband Brian, James L. Steele and Marcia A. Steele. She is also survived by her grandchildren and her great grandson, Alexander. Mary's family thanks the staff at Mercy for their kindness and care over many years. Thanks also to VNA Hospice for their gentle guidance as Mary prepared for her death. Mass will be celebrated for Mary on the 81st anniversary of her birth on July 11 at 11 AM at St. Joseph's Church, 178 Elm Street, Biddeford, with burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, 530 Elm Street, Biddeford.
