Mary Stewart Lewis passed away September 17, 2017 at the Barron Center in Portland.  She was born December 16, 1931 in Portland to George Allen and Adelaide (Shaw) Stewart. Mary graduated from Portland High School and the Maine Eye and Ear Infirmary.  She worked as a Registered Nurse at Maine Medical Center and also did private duty nursing.  She married Frank R. Lewis of Portland on June 4, 1954 in Portland. Mary was independent, hard working, strong willed and determined.  She valued knowledge and information and though deeply about life.  She was curious about health and sought answers.  She always enjoyed sharing her new found knowledge with her granddaughters.  She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and painting when she was younger. Mary was preceded in death by:  her parents, Capt. George Allen Stewart, Sr. and Adelaide Shaw; brother, George Allen Stewart, Jr.; and son-in-law, James Robert Giasson.  She is survived by:  her husband, Frank Lewis of Portland; daughter, Katherine Giasson of Auburn; granddaughters, Hannah Giasson of Palo Alto, CA and Pamela Giasson Lynch and her husband Thomas Lynch IV of Boston, MA; sister-in-law, Florence Stewart; and nephews, Douglas, Craig, Steven and Paul. A private family burial service will be held.
