Mary Nappi Hanlon February 28, 1936 March 27, 2014 Mary Nappi Hanlon, 78, of Portland died Thursday, March 27, 2014. She was born February 28, 1936, in Portland, the daughter of John and Lucrezia (Montecalvo) Nappi. She was educated in Portland schools and graduated from Deering High School in 1955. She married John Hanlon, Sr. on March 25, 1971. She worked for the Portland Police Department for 16 years at the Information desk. She was awarded Civilian of the Year for the City of Portland in 1989. Mary loved spending time with her family, shopping with her sisters and making beautiful quilts. She would often be found bragging about her grandchildren. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Mary is survived by her husband of 43 years, John Hanlon, Sr.; her sons, William Leuthold of South Portland and Steve Hanlon and his wife Amy of South Portland. Her grandchildren Allie and Joey Hanlon survive her. Surviving brothers include Joseph and wife Antoinette and Sabatino and wife Francis of Portland, Frank Nappi and Carol Johnson of Gray, Philip and wife Jutta of Scarborough, sisters Concetta Egan of South Portland, Rose Denis of Tennessee and Lucy Butts and husband Simmie of Portland; as well as sisters-in-law Rose Nappi of Falmouth, Anita Nappi of Yarmouth and Antoinette Nappi of Portland. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the very dedicated hospice workers that cared for her in her final weeks.
