Marilyn Thayer December 25, 2016 August 25, 2016 Scarborough - Marilyn Thayer, of Portland, died on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House after a courageous three and a half year battle with cancer. She was born on Christmas day 1930, to Armenian immigrants George and Mary Shapazian. Marilyn attended schools in Portland and graduated from Portland High School. While in school she worked at Walgreens, at the lunch counter. She went on to work at various clubs in Portland, including The Victoria, and the Westfield Inn, as a cocktail waitress and bartender. She retired as manager from the Portland Eagles Club in 1992. On May 1st 1964 she married the love of her life Victor E Thayer and together they raised 3 children. Marilyn enjoyed watching sports, golf especially Tiger Woods and football being her favorites. She liked to read and enjoyed cooking. She loved German Shepherds, having 4 of them over the years. Marilyn cherished spending time with her family. Marilyn is survived by her daughters Patti Barter, Lisa Thayer, and Sue Labbe; Grandchildren Tony Zarate (Kelly), Erin Barter (Rick), Nikki Barter (Jaime), Sarah Shuper (Gene); 7 Greatgrandchildren; a brother Carl Shapazian; a sister Elizabeth Uphoff. She is also survived by Diane Conley (Steve), who was like a daughter to her. She was predeceased by her husband Victor, a sister Margaret Shapazian, and a son-in-law David Barter. At her request Burial will be private at a later date.
