Marie J MacKenzie November 2, 1954 April 18, 2016 Marie J. (DiDonato) MacKenzie, 61 Portland - Marie MacKenzie died unexpectedly, but peacefully at home in her sleep of natural causes on April 18, 2016. She was born on November 2, 1954 in Biddeford. Her parents, Gus and Annette DiDonato, predeceased her. Marie had a huge heart and embraced life, family and friends. Her smile and laugh could light up a room. She unselfishly always had time for others, particularly her grandchildren whom she absolutely adored. She treasured what she called making memories with her grandchildren, and would always find the time to play games with them when they came home from school. In 1976 Marie married the love of her life, Don MacKenzie, Jr., and he and ""Lovey,"" as they affectionately called each other, were very much looking forward to celebrating 40 years of marriage this Sunday, April 24th. Together they had one daughter, Annette. In addition to being a proud wife, mother, ""Nana,"" and to her youngest granddaughter Carly, ""Nana Cupcake,"" Marie enjoyed watching professional wrestling, was a league bowler and a lunch volunteer at Hall School. She was employed at Shaw's and Hannaford Supermarkets for many years and most recently, and at the time of her death, was employed at South Portland Nursing Home. Besides her parents, Marie was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Kenneth MacKenzie. In addition to her husband Don, she is survived by her daughter Annette MacKenzie and her children Drew, Michaela, Patty, Megan and Carly of Portland; her brother Raymond (Mary) DiDonato of Portland; her sister Beth Ann Owen of Saco; many nieces and nephews; her brother-in-law Steve (Carol) MacKenzie of Portland, and sister-in-law Patty (Hank) Remington of South Portland. Visitation will be held at A. T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Ave., Portland on Monday, April 25th from 4 - 6 pm. A Memorial Service will immediately follow.
