Madalyn Irene Brown May 3, 1933 August 31, 2014 -Portland Madalyn Irene Brown, 81, of Portland passed away on Sunday August 31, 2014 at Maine Medical Center. She was born on May 3, 1933 in Portland to the late James and Marie (Lamery) Nixon. She was predeceased by her partents, her beloved husband of 58 years Clifton Brown, her sister Helen Nixon Vaslet, and her brother James Nixon. Madalyn was employed at Shaws for 20 years where she wore many hats. She also worked for Radio Shack for several years and ran her own day care. She was a wonderful cake decorator, She decorated cakes for many weddings and functions and always had a theme cake for people's birthdays. Madalyn loved her family and also enjoyed puzzles, crosswords, reading paperback novels, and would wallpaper for anyone who needed it. Her house was always decorated for the holidays. She would prepare Christmas Stockings, Easter Baskets, and Birthday bags for everyone. She is survived by her son LaForest (Kip) Brown of Portland, his wife Donna (DiPietro) Brown, her only grandchild, Gina Marie Brown of Portland, whom she completely adored, a sister Barbara Esposito of Portland with whom she had a special bond, several nieces and nephews all of whom she adored. The family would like to thank Madalyn's dear friends and neighbors Dave and Phyllis Marley, Dave Rennie, Sherri and Robyn, Rose, and Jean for all their help and support. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday September 3, 2014 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at A.T. Hutchins 660 Brighton Ave. Portland, ME 04102.
