Lucille Davis Young December 24, 1928 June 4, 2016 Lucille Davis Young was called home June 4, 2016, at the age of 87, a resident of Gosnell Hospice in Scarborough. All who knew her remember her for her winning smile and her outgoing nature. She always opened her home to friends and strangers offering to all a hugh dose of southern hospitality. She was born December 24, 1928, in Lee County, Mississippi, to sharecroppers Ben and Alice Lee Davis. She was assisted in her relocation to Maine in June of 1967 by Governor Ken Curtis and Senator Leo Ryan of California. With their help and working in conjunction with her daughter Jean and Alice Hinckley, Lucille made her home in Maine. She remained a lifelong resident of Portland, proud of the fact that she helped Bishop Williams found Williams Temple on Terrance Avenue. She was proud to see her children all become graduates of Portland High School. She worked for Fairchild Semiconductor in South Portland, on the night shift, from which she retired in 1991. She also worked for Dean Godfrey of the University of Maine Law School and Cuddy Cohen of Cohen Oil. In retirement, she worked as a volunteer with the City of Portland Housing Authority. She is survived by six of her children, Thelma Jean Gullatt, Mary Helen Crawford, Patricia Melvinia Smith, Kathy Parker Ross, and Tracy Young all of Portland; and Joan P. Davis, of Atlanta, Georgia, her sister Christine White of Warren, OH. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, including Issoufou Hamilton, Galen Gullatt and his wife Angela, Scotty Gullatt and his wife Brianna, Jeremiah Young, Cynthia Young, Lynda Lester, Mia Craft, Pam Manley and her husband Ed, Felix Craft, Curtis Van Isaac Smith, Kevin Smith, Andrew Davis, Jamal Brinkley and his wife Ashley and Tammy Jackson. She is also survived by some 40 great grandchildren who reside from Maine to Mississippi. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, June 9,2016 from 5-7 pm., at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Avenue, in Portland. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 10, at Williams Temple, Church of God in Christ, 274 Terrace Avenue, Portland. Burial in Brooklawn Memorial Park.
