Louise C. Currier October 8, 1924 June 24, 2014 Louise C. Currier, 89, passed away peacefully amidst family nd firends on June 24, 2014 at Cedars in Portland. She was born in Norway, ME on October 8, 1924, the daughter of Thelma ( nee Caswell) and Sumner Hopkinson. She was educated in South Paris schools and went on to graduate from the University of Maine- Farmington. She was a dedicated and distinguished educator for many years. She also served as an employment counselor for the Vocational Rehabilitation program in Portalnd, ME. Louise Currier was an avid reader, a life long learner, and a champion of many political causes. Throughout her life, she was a treasured friend for countless people who enjoyed her gift of hospitality and legendary wit. She was admired for her resilient spirit and her boundless energy. She is survived by her daughters Linda Gibbs of Scarborough, ME; Gail (Don) Jordan of Hudson, WI; Thea Beattie of Plainville, CT; daughter-in-law, Donna Gibbs of Lewiston, ME. She had seven grandchildren: Bethany (James) Hanley of Cumberland, ME; Sarah (Anthony) Staffiere of Waterville, ME; Christopher Jordan of Hudson, WI; Craig (Dwane) Beattie of Fairfield, CA, Heather (Bill) Dewitt of Newington, CT, Jody Debernardi, Alta Vista, CA, and Beth Debernardi, Burlington, VT. She was the devoted greatgrandmother of seven children: Evelyn, Claire, and Lillian Hanley; Gabriel Staffiere; and Colin, Thea, and Jacob Dewitt. She was preceded in death by her husbands Paul White, Ivan Gibbs, and Harlow Currier; her mother, Thelma Corbett; her father, Wilfred Corbett. her sons Bruce White and Michael Gibbs, and her son in law, Robert Debernardi. The internment will be held for family members. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held later. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers by donations to any public library or Meals on Wheels.
