Lillian (Lili) Bates (77) of Brunswick, ME, passed away on March 13, 2025. She was born in August 1947 in Waterville, ME. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Richmond Bates, and her two children, Tami Burke of Norfolk, VA (Tracy Burke) and David Kennedy of Sabattus, ME. She is also survived by her sisters Nanette LaVerdiere of New York, NY (Kalman Rubinson) and Tina Levy of Tucson, AZ (Nathan Levy). She is predeceased by her sister Diane Voskuhl. Lili graduated from Waterville High School. She had life-long interests in art. Lili received an Associate Degree in Interior Design from Parsons School of Design in New York City, and she attended DuCret School of Art in Plainfield, NJ. Lili received a Certificate in Botanical Illustration from the New York Botanical Garden and was a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists. Her artwork included award-winning botanical illustrations. She was incredibly creative and mastered every medium she worked in. From stained glass, to knitting, to sewing, to inventing her own craft designs; creativity infused everything she did. She loved being behind the wheel of a turbo car and had a wonderful sense of style. She absolutely adored her fiber arts group friends, and the women in that community were her rock as were her dear neighbors and special extended family at Leo's. She never forgot a kindness, and she loved her home and her family with her whole heart. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 27 Pleasant Street, Brunswick, ME on Monday, April 7 at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lili's memory may be made to Pine Tree Society, Bath, ME or People Plus, Brunswick, ME.
