Lawrence "Larry" Young February 21, 2013 Scarborough - Lawrence C. Young, 71, better known as Larry by his family and friends, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2013 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. Larry graduated from South Portland High School in 1959. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and completed his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. He was then sent to Savannah, GA where he continued his training in refrigeration and air conditioning. Upon his discharge from the military, he returned home to South Portland where he worked as a boilermaker for Peerless welding before opening his own auto repair business at Ray-Mac in South Portland for 23 years. Larry was a lifetime member of the Portland Eagles, Harold T. Andrews Post 15 VFW and the Columbia Club. He often spoke fondly of his friends from all of these places as his family. He loved sports; NASCAR and football among his favorites. Larry was predeceased by his parents and his younger brother, Greg. He is survived by his three sisters, Donna Ohman of South Portland, Sandra Shaw and her husband Joe of Windham and Cheryl Cash of Arizona, his two brothers Wayne Young of South Portland and Warren Young of Gray as well as six nieces and five nephews. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Ave, Portland.
