Obituary

Obituary for Katherine Mezzle (Small) DiPietro Katherine Mezzle (Small) DiPietro, 87, of Westbrook, passed away on Sunday September 28, 2025 at her residence surrounded by the love of her family. She was born in Portland, Maine, on February 13, 1938 a daughter of Raymond E. and Mar-garet L. (Curit) Small. She graduated from Portland High School and married the love of her life, Nicholas DiPietro, on December 10, 1955. The two shared nearly 59 years of marriage before Nicholas's passing on October 5, 2014. Katherine devoted her life to her family and her faith. A devout believer in God, her strong faith guided her through every season of her life. Her favorite time of year was Christmas, which she celebrated with unmatched joy and preparation, shopping all year long and be-ginning her planning the day after Christmas for the next one. She and Nicholas raised five children together: Annamarie (deceased), Nicholas II, Pierina, Concetto "Tony," and Mario. Katherine was also "Mom," "Nana," or "Aunt Kay" to countless others, extended family, ex-spouses, in-laws, her children's and grandchildren's friends, and neighbors, all of whom she embraced as family and welcomed into her home. She is survived by four of her children, eleven of her grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren with one on the way, and her soon-to-arrive first great-great-grandchild, and sister Sharon Peacock. She was preceded in death by her daughter Annamarie, her grand-sons Concetto Jr. and Nicholas III, and her beloved husband Nicholas; Siblings; Raymond "Ditty," Donald, Lawrence "Lolly," Alice "Allie," Marjorie "Margie," Vaughndella "Bonnie." Katherine will be remembered as selfless, giving, and unwavering in her support of her family. She never missed a school play, sporting event, or family gathering. She loved feeding the birds and chipmunks that would eat from her hand, she loved shopping, and she loved the company of visitors. She had incredible intestinal fortitude and unshakable strength, anchored always in her faith. A homemaker throughout her life, Katherine's greatest work was raising her family and nurturing the lives of those around her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and faith. The family would like to thank the hospice nurses, Julia and Erin for all their help to make her journey easy. "She will be deeply missed, but her love will live on in all who were blessed to know her." We love you more!! XO Services will be private.
