Obituary

Judith "Judy" Fagone (McCullum), 85, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, surrounded by her family. Judy was born on May 7, 1940, in Portland, Maine, the youngest daughter of the late William E. and Mary (Conley) McCullum. A lifelong Portland resident, she attended St. Patrick's School and was a proud graduate of Portland High School. It was during her high school years that she met her future husband, Joseph "Joe" P. Fagone II. She and Joe married in June 1961 and shared 64 loving years together. Judy dedicated her early years to raising their three children: Joe, Paul, and Deanna. As her children grew older, she returned to work, spending many years at the Area Agency on Aging until her retirement. Judy lived life to the fullest and was deeply involved in her community. She had a smile that could light up any room and a kind, friendly demeanor that drew people in. She and her husband were longtime members of the Elks and the Italian Heritage Center, where they made many lasting friendships. Judy enjoyed a vibrant social life — from weekly luncheons with her many girlfriends to gatherings that celebrated life's little moments. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed word puzzles. Her greatest joy, however, was her family. She cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, never missing an opportunity to be together — whether volunteering at their schools, enjoying "Sunday Fundays," or joining family trips. Judy loved opening her home for the holidays and hosting lively poolside gatherings filled with laughter, food, and games. She also had a passion for travel; she and Joe explored the world with friends and spent more than 30 winters in Florida, many of them at their second home in Bradenton — a place that held a special spot in her heart and where countless fond memories were made. Judy was predeceased by her husband, Joe; her parents; her sisters, Lorraine Staszko, June Whipple, Jean Donovan, and Janet Bassett; and her brothers, William, James, and John "Donny" McCullum. She leaves behind, and will be deeply missed by, her daughter Deanna Ives and her husband Greg; her sons Joe and his partner Monica, and Paul (Chuck) and his partner Amanda. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Alex, Michael, Domenic, Arianna, Gianna, Sophia, Olivia, Nick, Libby, Ben, and Kayleigh; and six great-grandchildren: Maddie, Luca, Oliver, Vaeda, Bowen, and Penelope. She is also remembered by her sister-in-law Judy (Dave) Cavalero and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Bonnie, Ashley, and John, along with the many other caretakers who provided Judy with exceptional care and compassion. Visiting hours and a Celebration of Judy's Life will be held on Saturday, November 15, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by a brief service at A.T. Hutchins, 660 Brighton Ave, Portland, ME 04102. A graveside burial will be held on Monday, November 17, at 10 a.m.at Calvary Cemetery, 1461 Broadway, South Portland, ME 04106.
