Obituary

Joseph Gordon Wilson November 2, 1926 September 11, 2013 Joseph Gordon Wilson of Falmouth, ME, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. Joe was born in St. Louis, MO on November 2, 1926. He was very proud of his service to his country during WWII and received the Army Occupation Medal as well as the World War II Victory Medal. He graduated from Lee Academy in Lee, ME and attended The University of Maine in Orono. Joe worked for Singer Sewing Machine, Maine Insurance Company and American Family Life Insurance Company. Joe was predeceased by his wife Barbara Ann (Pratt) Wilson, his mother Elizabeth J (Cook) Wilson, his stepmother Katharine Lobdell Wilson and his father William K. Wilson. He is survived by sons Bruce D. Wilson and his wife Susanne, Scott C. Wilson and wife Karen, Wayne J. Wilson and wife Pamela, daughter Bonnie R. Holding and husband Blaine, and son Randy W. Wilson and wife Rose as well as 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Joe is also survived by his loving sisters Janet Conner of New York, Susan Nevelson of Florence, Italy and Nancy Dennison of Galveston, TX. In addition, there are many wonderful people that considered themselves to be members of the ""extended"" Wilson family, and each added to the warmth and love of Joe and Barb's home. To know Joe is to know of his love of the sea and the islands of Maine. The memories are too many to mention of his and Barb's many trips throughout Casco Bay aboard their beloved Tightline. In later years they traded in cruising the bay to cruising the roads in their motor home, also known as Tightline. In recent years Joe has enjoyed his home and family as well as many day trips with his children. He especially remembered his recent trip to the WWII Memorial in Washington D.C. with his son Bruce. Joe was an avid pool player and enjoyed many family meals at in-law's Donnie and Pam Pratt's, followed by spirited pool games at his nephew Cory's, joined by family and friends. The family of Joe would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Hospice of Southern Maine (with a special thank you to the wonderful Sponge Babe!). Their professionalism, compassion and support of Joe and his family will never be forgotten. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 14th at Faith Lighthouse Church, 47 Smith Wheel Road, Old Orchard Beach. Arrangements are by A.T. Hutchins Funeral & Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Ave., Portland. To offer words of condolences, sign a guest book and share memories, go to the obituary page at www.athutchins.com.
