John A. Waterhouse November 12, 1934 April 15, 2013 Portland - John A Waterhouse of Portland, 78, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 15, 2013. He was born in Scarborough, Maine, on Nov 12, 1934, to the late George and Alice Newcomb Waterhouse. He attended Scarborough schools, and lived his younger years in Scarborough. John had been a resident of Portland for over 50 years, where he worked for the Portland Public Works Department and retired after 26 years of service in 1994. He enjoyed spending time with his many friends and family. He was a loving soul who would help any in need. He was at his happiest spending time with his family, during the holidays, BBq's and reunions and could keep you talking all day. He loved his western movies, especially John Wayne. He was known to many as ""Long John"", he will be missed by all. John is predeceased by his infant daughter, Lori Waterhouse, and brothers, Cecil, Erland, Robert, Roy, Warren and Wilber Waterhouse; sisters Dorothy Tapley, Ethel Cram, Florence and Mildred Waterhouse. He is survived by a sister, Hazel Tapley, of Buxton; two sons; Robert Waterhouse, of Milford, Conn; James Waterhouse and his wife Laura, of New Gloucester; six grandchildren: Bethany Waterhouse-Bradley and husband Michael of Ireland, Ann-Marie Waterhouse of Kittery; Timothy Waterhouse, Samantha Waterhouse, and Tyler Waterhouse of New Gloucester, Danielle Waterhouse-Martin of Lewiston, four great grandchildren - Jack and Connor Martin of Lewiston, and Milo and Astrid Bradley of Ireland, along with a wonderful family of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends. Friends and family are invited to a period of visitation from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with a funeral service at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 19, 2013 at A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Ave, Portland. Interment will follow at Forest City Cemetery, 232 Lincoln St., South Portland.
