John Marvin Van Dusen of Old Orchard Beach Maine, died at the age of 81 on August 12 2024. Although his health history was long and varied, he really died of a broken heart, having lost his beloved wife Nora seven years ago. John was born on March 13, 1943 to John and Anna Van Dusen in Paden City WV. He was educated in Paden City schools, then joined the US Navy in 1961, serving 8 years as a 2nd Class Petty Officer. After discharge he studied Criminal Justice at the University of Maryland. He then worked for 20 years for the Montgomery County Department of Corrections, where he met his wife, paramedic Nora Henderson, the love of his life. They were married on April 24, 1987. They used to joke they met "in jail". After 20 years in Maryland, John and Nora moved to her home state of Maine, where John worked in Security at Southern Maine Medical Center for 15 years, retiring in 2009. John was the proud father of and is survived by his son John (Amanda) Van Dusen II, his daughter Teryl (Brian) Jones, 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. His greatest joy came from spending time with Nora, visiting friends and family, especially in Bethany Beach, Delaware and Cape Cod. He loved golfing, fishing, boating and shrimp. A private graveside service, with military honors, will take place at the Southern Maine Veterans' Cemetery in Springvale at a later date.
