Obituary

John A. Hanlon, Sr. September 26, 1933 March 4, 2016 Scarborough John A. Hanlon, Sr., 82, made his final step of life on Friday, March 4, 2016. He is now reunited with his mom and dad and his daughter, Arlene and son, Harry. John proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. He was a firefighter with the City of Portland where he retired after 20 years of service and also served as a deputy sheriff for the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department. He was a member of the American Legion and the Am vets. John was a past Commander of VFW Post #6859 in Portland and a Past Worthy President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Casco Aerie #565, in Portland. John will always be remembered for the time and devotion he gave to his family and friends. He always cherished the time when the family could get together; he always was able to find a way to help someone when they needed it. Most of all, he will be remembered as a loving husband to his wife, Mary and a wonderful father to his children. He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Mary Jane (Edwards) Hanlon, 6 sons, John Hanlon Jr. and his wife, Debbie, James Hanlon, Michael Hanlon and his wife, Margo, Ronnie Hanlon, Clayton Hanlon and his wife, Jodi and Kenny Hanlon and his wife, Lori, 27 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. John's wish was for his family and friends to join together in a celebration of life which will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 from 3-6pm at the Portland Eagles, 184 St. John Street, Portland, ME.
