JoAnne Torrey passed away at home surrounded by her loving children on May 27, 2017.  She was born July 28, 1956 in Bennington, VT to James F. and Vera Marie (Jones) Riggs. JoAnne graduated from Burr and Burton Academy in Manchester, VT before working in retail as a Sales Manager for over 40 years. She would be the first to say that some of her fondest memories and dearest friends were from her time at what is now Wendy's One Stop in Bath, Maine. JoAnne was a friendly woman who was always quick to share a joke or a laugh. Those who knew her could always look forward to an easy smile and being called "hon." She enjoyed spending time with her family and in nature; hiking, going to the beach, bird watching and exploring. She also enjoyed reading, listening to music, and dancing. JoAnne was preceded in death by her parents.  She is survived by: her daughters, Michelle Dunnivant and her husband Jason of Portland and Merideth Henderson and her husband Ernest of Virginia; granddaughter, Emerson Dunnivant of Portland; sister, Patricia Fletcher and her husband Larry of Topsham, brother, James Riggs Jr. of NY; sisters Jennifer Riggs of OH, Jerri Brown of AZ, and Carla Ingram of FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A memorial service will take place at 10:00 AM on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home (660 Brighton Ave., Portland).  Burial will take place at Maple Hill Cemetery in Dorset, VT at a later date.
