Joan E. McGill April 4, 1939 September 1, 2016 Joan Estabrook McGill, 77, of South Portland, passed into the loving arms of her waiting husband Robert on September 1, 2016, at the Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough surround by her loving family, after a long battle with cancer. She was born on April 4, 1939 in Oakfield, Maine, the youngest of four children of Gladys Kennedy and Wilbert Estabrook. Joan went to Portland schools, after school she went to work for Union Mutual for a time, then went on to raise two children and taking care of many children over the years in a small day care at her home. She also enjoyed her daily walks to Bug Light in South Portland. Joan is survived by her sisters Jackie Murray of Cape Elizabeth, Gail Williamson of Liester, Massachusetts and a brother Raymond of California, a son Jeffery McGill and his wife Valerie of Gorham, a daughter Jennifer McGill and her husband Richard of South Portland, a granddaughter Mia Day and her husband Correy and a great granddaughter April, all of Windham, a grandson Gary McGill and his partner Brittany Rilley of Standish, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Special thanks to Donna Van Horn and her husband Jerry for their special care to Joan and her dog Daisy; also to the staff of MMC's 5th floor of the Gibson Wing, Seaside Rehabilitation Therapy staff, Maine Medical Partners Gynecologic, the Oncology Center of Scarborough, Dr. Taraza and staff, and the Angels on earth at the Gosnell Hospice House. There will be no services per request of Joan. To all who knew her and Robert, they both say, ""Awful glad you met me"".
