Obituary

Janet "Sue" Burgbacher(Gardner) passed away peacefully on August 28, 2024 just a few days short of her 91st birthday. Sue, as she liked to be called, was born on September 9,1933 in Findlay, Ohio. She spent her younger years in Ohio with her family, which included her sister and brother. Sue would often share stories of her childhood in Ohio. It was in Ohio where Sue met the love of her life, Robert Burgbacher. Sue and Bob married and together raised Sandy, Bob's daughter and Sue's step daughter. Bob and Sue moved to Michigan in 1968, to a quaint lake called AuSable Lake, located in Lupton, Michigan. It was here that Sue and Bob enjoyed time with their close network of friends and family. Sue and Bob enjoyed visits from their family, especially the time spent with Sandy and her two boys, Sue's grandsons Andy and Matt. Andy and Matt have endless memories of their time on the lake with "Grandma and Grandpa". Memories include fishing on the lake, spending time with family and listening to the loons, Sue loved loons. Sue and Bob also enjoyed sailing. They could often be found sailing the Great Lakes, with friends and even a summer trip with their grandson Andy. At the end of a long day on the water they enjoyed sipping a beer or glass of wine and telling stories with friends. When Bob passed away, Sue sold her home in Michigan and moved to Maine to be close to Sandy, Matt and Andy as well as their families. She enjoyed her time in Maine where she celebrated holidays and events with the family. While Maine was her final home, her heart was always back with AuSable Lake where her fondest memories will always be. Sue was an independent, strong, kind and loving soul. She will be missed by many. Sue leaves behind her sister, Nancy Gerdeman of Ohio, several nieces and nephews, as well as her Maine family, grandsons Andy and Matt Thomas, granddaughter Kate Thomas, as well as great grandchildren, Ben, Jon, Wyatt and Gavin Thomas. The family would like to thank Seventy Five State Street Senior Living for their love and care for Sue over the years.
