James Dana Pratt October 7, 1949 December 29, 2011 Scarborough - James Dana Pratt, 62, died peacefully, December 29, 2011 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, Scarborough, Maine after his long struggle with muscular dystrophy. James was born on October 7, 1949 in Rockland, Maine the son of Charles Dana Pratt and Ada Glennis (Ames) Pratt. James was a direct descendant of the original settlers of Matinicus Island. As a young boy, James was raised on Matinicus, where he attended the Matinicus Island School. When he reached high school age, he became a boarding student at Fryeburg Academy. Like many of those on the island, he spent time working as a fisherman. His father was instrumental in establishing microwave telephone and electrical service on Matinicus. His grandfather Dana F. Pratt was a violinist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. James was a US Navy veteran. While at Gosnell, he fondly remembered his tour of duty in the Mediterranean Sea. James eventually settled in Portland and lived there up until his final days at Gosnell. Per James wishes, there will be no services. Burial will be held on Matinicus Island at a later date. Arrangements are under the guidance of Independent Death Care, 660 Brighton Ave in Portland.
