Obituary

Portland - James "Jimmy" Holland, 84, of Portland, died peacefully in his sleep at home on Monday March 20, 2017. Jimmy was born on May 9, 1932 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was a fortunate man who was very loved by his daughters, family, friends, neighbors and healthcare providers. Jimmy graduated from Portland High School and excelled at music, singing, playing the trumpet, piano and ukulele. He excelled in sports, particularly football, basketball and baseball. While his children were growing up, many nights were spent singing and dancing with his wife, Betty and five daughters and his son. Jimmy loved sports and for many years coached the basketball team at Cathedral School of the Immaculate Conception to many victories. Jimmy had a very successful career as a sales manager and travelled throughout New England for Noyes Tire Company. Jimmy was an avid golfer and a member of Riverside Golf Club, and he golfed for more than sixty-five years. He was known for his hearty sense of humor and big personality. Jimmy is predeceased by his wife, Betty, a daughter Susie Rich, a son Timmy Holland, a grandson, John C. Cogswell and a son -in- law John R. Cogswell. He is survived by his four daughters, Linda Miller, Catherine Cogswell, Frances Payne and her husband Mark and Teresa Odlin and her husband Jimmy.  He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A Memorial Mass to celebrate Jimmy's life will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2017at 10:00 am in the Chapel of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland.
