Herbert W. Peace, Sr. April 30, 1922 May 28, 2012 Herbert W. Peace, Sr, 90, resident of South Portland, died May 28, 2012, after a short visit at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, Scarborough. He was born April 30, 1922 the son of William and Lena (Oby) Peace in Waterville, Maine. He grew up in Waterville and attended the Goodwill/Hinckley School. He was very proud to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II and Korea. Herb worked for many years as a general contractor in Maine and had been a part of construction projects including LL Bean, Pratt Whitney as well as many private homes in the area. In later years he developed Nedia Construction and Alpha Management in Scarborough. His interests included hunting, fishing, collecting coins and stamps as well as spending time at his camp on North Pond in Smithfield. He is survived by 3 daughters; Pamela Peterson, Brenda MacConnachie and Becky Peace as well as a son Jeff Peace. He is predeceased by a daughter Sandy Sanborn and a son, Butch Peace. He has 17 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his lifelong friend and companion, Helen Pitts and her daughter Debbie as well as many friends. He loved life and looked forward to each day and it's adventures. Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at A. T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Ave, Portland, where a funeral service will follow at 11 AM. Interment with military honors will follow at 1 PM in Maine Veteran's Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. Donations may be made to the Herbert W.
