Henry "Sonny" Bertin, Jr. September 23, 1930 March 13, 2012 Portland- Henry (Sonny) Bertin Jr. passed away after a lengthy illness on March 13, 2012 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice in Scarborough, ME. Henry was born in Westbrook, ME on September 23, 1930, a son of Henry S. Sr. and Kathleen (Lothrop) Bertin. Henry was the Owner and President of Sawyer's Flower Shop in Portland, ME for 35 years. He operated the Flower shop with his wife Anna and taught 3 of his children floral design. His son was also involved in the delivery of the flowers. He was very proud of all of his children's accomplishments. Henry served 9 years in the Navy and was honorably discharged in 1956. He entered into landscaping and growing of plants and flowers with his father Henry and his brother Roger in Bertin's Greenhouses located in Westbrook, ME. He loved the Flower business and was involved in the many aspects of the day to day business. He served on the board of directors for the Teleflora delivery service and was honored by many of his fellow florist. He received Member of the Year award in 1992 from the Maine Florist Growers Association and was honored in 1993 by the Maine Unit of Teleflora. He was known by many different names, Mr. Flowers, Mr. Sawyer, Flower Man, and he answered to each and every name with much pride even though he was known as ""Sonny"" by many of fellow Florist and that was fine with him. He was one of the many Florists in the area who helped arrange the Maine Flower show which was held at the Maine Mall and it was a great success. He was very proud when he was invited to participate in honoring Margret Chase Smith on her 100th birthday. Many Florists were asked to decorate an arrangement of 100 dozen roses in which he participated with great pride. His picture was taken with all the other florists with Margret Chase Smith and was displayed in a beautiful frame on his desk. He was pre-deceased by brothers Roger and David and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Anna Bertin; his five children, daughters, Roseanne Baillargeon and her husband Richard of Westbrook, ME, Barbara Zaharis and her husband Glen of Scarborough ME, Susan Groves and her husband Ron of South Portland, ME, Son, Henry (Skip) Bertin and his wife Monica of Gorham, ME, sister-in-law, Joan Bertin of Scarborough, ME. Thirteen grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held from 3-7 pm on Friday, March 16, 2012 at A.T. Hutchins Funeral & Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Ave. Portland, where a funeral will be held at 11 am on Saturday, March 17, 2012. Burial will follow at Forest City Cemetery in South Portland.
