Helen Matero August 16, 1935 September 29, 2016 Helen Matero, a long-time resident of Westchester County NY, came to Maine on September 12, 2016 after battling a long illness, to be by her daughters Suzanne & Jane Dobrovolny, and her husband Michael Matero with the hopes of having a better quality life and spending more time with her family. She moved to Scarborough Terrace Assisted Living Facility and was recently admitted to Gosnell Hospice Home. She passed away on September 29, 2016 at 9:36 p.m. She was born Helen Andrews on August 16, 1935 to Mildred and Michael Andrews in Wisbech, England, a market town and inland port in the Fens of~Cambridgeshire. Helen met and is survived by her husband Michael M. Matero~who served in the US Air Force on a base stationed in Kings Lynn, England. Additionally, she is survived by her daughters Suzanne Dobrovolny and her husband Mark and Jane Dobrovolny and her husband Thomas, her brothers Kenneth Lambert and John (Jackie) Andrews of England, and grandsons Brett and Jason Dobrovolny. Helen loved to read current events, the dictionary and loved penmanship.~ In her youth, at home in England, she attended an all girls school, which she loved.~ Her first career path was that of a Telephone Exchange Operator. Upon moving to the United States, she raised her daughters, eventually got her real estate license and worked at Hudson Valley Hospital as a switchboard operator. Helen loved flowers, tea, scones, and anything British.~ She was proud of her ancestry and her "Sharp tack" attitude, for which she will always be remembered. Arrangements are by A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services of Portland.
