Harold Eugene Hodgdon, Sr. February 13, 1928 February 28, 2016 Gorham Harold E. Hodgdon Sr., passed on February 28, 2016 at the age 88 of natural causes. Harold was the son of Captain Alonzo L. Hodgdon and Alta B. Coffin Hodgdon. He was born and grew up in the Woodfords community of Portland and attended Deering High school. Harold first worked for the Grand Trunk railroad and continued his career with the Maine Central Railroad from which he retired.. Harold was WW II Veteran with the Maine State Guard. Harold was actively involved in the International Order of Odd Fellows I.O.O.F., where he and wife Betty were 63 year members. Harold was Past Noble Grand of the Odd Fellows in the greater Portland area. He joined on May 9,1952 with Maine Lodge #1 at 25A Forest Avenue. Through a consolidation in 1979 he went to the Presumpscot Lodge #91 and finally to the Unity Lodge #3 in 2015. He was a Past Noble Grand in the Ivy Rebekah Lodge #5 and an associate member of Fraternity #6 at Woodfords Corner. He also was a member of Eastern Star Encampment #2 where he was a Past District Deputy Grand Patriarch and a Captain in the Ridgely Canton #1. Harold enjoyed hunting, camping and canoeing with family and friends. He was always close to his brothers and sister, often sharing camps and outings to Sebago Lake, Maine. ~ He was the last surviving member of his three brothers and sister. Harold's siblings possessed musical talent and enjoyed singing and playing musical instruments together. They were no doubt inspired by the player piano in their home. He is survived by his children ; Barbara Conley, So.Portland; Harold E. Hodgdon Jr, Berwick; James O. Hodgdon, West Buxton; Jeanette R. Adams, Gorham; Alan L. Hodgdon, Cumberland; Beverly A. Gorham, Standish; Mark A .Hodgdon, Portland and numerous grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife Betty M. Oliver Hodgdon. A Graveside Service will be held at the Brooklawn Memorial Park, Friday, March 4th at 1:00 P. M. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
