Gerald E Trefethen March 13, 1930 September 14, 2015 Portland Gerald E. Trefethen, 85, of Portland died peacefully on September 14, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, after a very long illness. Gerald was born on March 13, 1930 the son of Edwin and Nettie Trefethen. He served in the Marine Corp. from 1949 to 1952. Gerald retired from The American National Can Company after 45 years of employment. In his younger years he enjoyed golf and bowling. He later found a passion for gardening and woodworking. He also enjoyed traveling whenever he could. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Helen, and his four children Cathy Crane and her husband David, Holly Mason, Jerry Trefethen and his wife Dina, and Cynthia Trefethen. He is also survived by two granddaughters Caitlin Coppenrath and Kelsea Trefethen ; and four grandsons Ryan Crane, Andrew Crane, Brent Crane, and Eric Mason; four great grandchildren, Hayden, Landon, Caleb, and Colby; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents; a brother Donald Trefethen; and two sisters, Marjorie Crocker and Priscilla Nash. The family would like to thank the VNA Home Health and Hospice nurses and aides who cared for him at home, Especially Cara, and Cheryl. They would also like to thank the staff at Gosnell House for the amazing support and care they gave Gerald. A private burial will be held at a later date.
