Obituary

Falmouth, ME - George Davis Pride, 83, of Falmouth, ME, passed away peacefully at his home on October 9, 2024._ George was born in Portland, Maine, on February 3, 1941, to Philip Snowman Pride and Emma May (Roast) Pride. He graduated from Deering High School in 1959, and shortly thereafter, enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served with distinction until his honorable discharge in 1965. Afterward, George pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maine in 1977. In 1965, George met the love of his life, Shirley Ann, and they married soon after. Over the next 59 years, they built a life filled with love, devotion, and shared memories. George began his career as a firefighter before transitioning to law enforcement. He served with the Portland Police Department for 21 years, retiring as a Detective Sergeant on January 30, 1987. Throughout his career, he received numerous commendations for his service and dedication. After retiring from the police force, George continued his commitment to public service for another decade with the University of Southern Maine (USM) Campus Police. A man of integrity, honor, and an unwavering work ethic, George was old school in his approach to life. He worked tirelessly, often holding down two jobs to provide for his family. With steadfast conviction, he instilled in his children the values of saving, hard work, and the importance of education. George believed in earning what you had and always placed his family's needs ahead of his own wants. His greatest reward came not from personal achievements, but from the success of his children and grandchildren. George was a man of principle-well-read, meticulous, and deeply organized. He found peace in routine and took great pride in his home and possessions. His mantra was simple: respect your belongings and make sure everything found its place. His yard, always immaculately kept, and his black truck, pristine as ever, were often the envy of the neighborhood. Every morning, George could be found enjoying coffee with Shirley on their enclosed back porch, savoring the quiet moments before the day began. He cherished drives with his son Mike and grandson Mason, thoughtful conversations with his granddaughter Sofia, a hug and kiss from granddaughter Emma, his daughter-in-law Silvana-whom he trusted deeply-and long walks with Shirley. These simple routines and close-knit relationships were the heart of George's world, bringing him comfort and a deep sense of fulfillment. In addition to their life in Maine, George and Shirley spent their winters in Florida, always welcoming their children and grandchildren with open arms. George is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; his children, A. Michele Carter of Dover, NH and Michael & Silvana Pride of Falmouth, ME; his 5 grandchildren, Jackie & Nathan Carter of Dover, NH, and Sofia, Emma, & Mason Pride of Falmouth, ME. He was predeceased by his parents, Philip and Emma Pride, and two brothers, Phil and Dick Pride. A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Ave, Portland, ME. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 PM at Blanchard Cemetery, 215 Winn Road, Falmouth, ME.
