Obituary

George " Larry" Robicheaw June 23, 1933 August 21, 2015 Portland - George ""Larry"" Robicheaw 82, died on August 21, 2015 at Maine Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 23,1933 in Westbrook, Maine, the adored son of George and Clara Robicheaw. Larry graduated from Westbrook High School in 1951 where he played baseball for the legendary Fred Harlow, and was a proud member of the ""51""State Championship team. He was honored to be selected for All Telegram league honors for his baseball accomplishments that year. After graduation Larry attended Portland Junior College (now USM) while working for his father's Mobil Service Station in Westbrook. At this time he was introduced to his true love and future wife Frances A. Geary on a blind date (thank you Maurice and Kathy Harvey) before being drafted into the U.S. Army where he spent a year of service overseas in Korea. Upon leaving the military Larry began a 36 year career as family provider and papermaker at S.D. Warren Co. until his retirement in 1998. Their first of four children arrived in September 1959 and Cedarhurst Lane in Portland became home for Robicheaw fun and family traditions for many years to come. Larry was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and he pursued and shared the beauty he found in everyday life with each member of his family. He was an avid reader with an unquenchable thirst for historical knowledge, forever in search of an obscure anecdote he could turn in to a humble lesson of humanity for his friends and family to enjoy. His love of the New York Yankees and the game of baseball was well known and he was an active member of the Society for Baseball Research. Larry would send hand written letters to baseball players in their golden years asking for the compliment of their autograph and the notes he received back always thanked him for remembering them. Larry lived for his annual trip (28 times) to St. Maarten with Frannie to honor their anniversary, family gatherings at Sebago Lake, and day trips to Scarborough Beach. He appreciated his monthly coffee shop get togethers with old friends initiated by George Walker and Paul Leconte. Larry is survived by his children Theresa, her husband Greg Symalla of Windham, Cecilia Robicheaw and Julie Baughman of Portland, and son John Robicheaw and his wife Diana of Cape Elizabeth. His 8 grandchildren Molly, Joshua, Matthew, Sam, Luke, Sarah, Christopher and Jessie were the center of his universe. He is also survived by his loving cousin Jerry Brooks. He is predeceased by his parents George and Clara Robicheaw and 2 infant children Mary and Matthew. Visiting hours will be held at A.T Hutchins Funeral & Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Ave, Portland on Wednesday, August 26 from 5 - 7pm. A private mass be held at a later date.
