George H. Gehrs, Jr. June 26, 1920 May 5, 2014 George H Gehrs, Jr died May 5 at the age of 93. He was born June 26, 1920 in St. Joseph, Mo. the son of George and Helen Gehrs. He attended schools there and served in the Navy during WWII. Although he mainly served in the South Pacific, he was stationed for a time in Portland, Me where he met his future wife, Pauline Stacy. After the war he and Pauline eventually settled down in Portland where George worked for the Portland Gas Company for over 30 years. In 1958 they built their house in Falmouth where they raised their family and lived for 53 years. George was a long time member of the Falmouth Rod and Gun Club and loved to camp in the White Mountains near North Conway, NH. After his retirement, he and Pauline enjoyed extensive traveling, including visiting every state in the lower 48. At the time of his death, George was a resident of the Woods at Canco in Portland. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years in Feb. 2010. He is survived by his four children, daughter Susan Allen and husband David of Rockland, and sons Robert and partner Donna Rondeau of Windham, Steven and wife Lori of Herman and Richard of San Jose, CA., as well as several nieces and nephews.
