Obituary

Gayle Curto Shonley (4/3/1947-12/9/2022)             Gayle passed away in her sleep on December 9th. She had family with her. She had a short battle with dementia. She is survived by her husband, Terry Clopper; her daughter Kirsten Shonle, her son Macneil Shonle; her sister Deborah Ursone; and her 4 grandchildren Io, Titan, Aeson, and Ansel. She was a very devoted and caring wife, mother, and grandmother.             She grew up in Stamford, Connecticut. She had a large Italian family. She spent a lot of time with her aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was the older cousin in a large cohort and was a babysitter, big sister, and confidante.             Gayle was a spiritual being grounded with a love for children. She ran her first business in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, a specialty toy store called Rainbow Toys. When she moved to Yarmouth, Maine she opened another Rainbow Toys in Falmouth, which she ran from 1992 until she sold it in 1996. She worked as a volunteer for the Arthritis Foundation. Gayle also worked for the Portland Public School System as a special educational technician from 2000 to 2007.             Gayle loved to travel. She went on many cross-country trips when her children were young and she visited all 50 US states. Starting again in 2000 she resumed her love of traveling when she and her husband, on the spur of the moment, purchased their first of several Airstream campers and traveled throughout the country, spending a good deal of her time in the South and Southwest.             She enjoyed gardening at her home in Falmouth, taking road trips in her adopted state of Maine, and just being in good company with her many close friends and family.              In accordance with her wishes there will be no service.
