Obituary

Fred S. Moore of Portland, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 16th 2017. He was born in Oak Park, Illinois the son of Lyman and Doris (Sargent) Moore. After graduating from Deering High School, Fred enlisted in the United States Army where he served as an audit specialist in South Korea. After two years of service, he attended the University of Maine earning first his Bachelor's in Accounting and ultimately his MBA. Fred returned to Federal Service, working for the U.S. Government in various postings around Asia for six years. Upon his return to Maine, Fred worked as a purchasing agent and assistant controller for Hannaford Brothers Company, in Scarborough for 23 years. He was a member of the Deering Memorial VFW Post and the Portland Eagles Club. Fred was passionate about world and local history, sports, politics, discussing current events, cats, chess, puzzles of all kinds, and his beloved city of Portland. He is survived by his wife, Kyun S. Moore, and their children: Robert G. Moore of Portland; Donna and her husband, Tad Bettcher, of North Yarmouth; and his brother, David Moore of Ipswich, New Hampshire. Special thanks to the residents and staff of the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough. There are no visiting hours. A family interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, with military honors.
