Emilyn Young March 15, 1930 January 25, 2012 Emilyn Luttrell Young, 81, formerly of Craig, Colorado died January 25 in Portland, Maine with family. She was born in Hayden, Colorado on March 15, 1930, the daughter of James E. and Florence B. Luttrell. Emilyn attended local schools and graduated from Moffat County High School in 1948. She earned at Bachelors of Arts degree and a teaching certificate from the University of Colorado, Boulder. She worked in California following graduation and that is where she met her husband. In the summer of 1957, Emilyn married Wintom (Buck) Young. They lived in Liberal Kansas and then returned to Craig in 1963. Emilyn taught Kindergarten at East Elementary School for twenty one years. In addition to teaching, Emilyn ran her father's businesses after his death. Emilyn possessed a deep appreciation for family, friends, education and the arts. Over the years, she was very active in her community. Emilyn was active in Arts and Humanities, Eastern Star, Civic Club, Girl Scouts, Arts in the Park, Elementary Arts Festival, Moffat County Schools Federal Credit Union, Chamber of Commerce, Moffat County Library, First Congregational Church and the local food back. Emilyn was predeceased by both of her parents and her husband. She is survived by her three daughters: Sallie Means of Cheyenne Wyoming, Sandie Young of Kayenta Arizona and Maree Young of Portland Maine; and her granddaughter Katelyn Means of Cheyenne Wyoming. Memorial services to celebrate Emilyn's life will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 2 at First Congregational Church in Craig, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that friends to honor Emilyn's love and belief in the importance of reading for kids by donating books to kids who may not have access to books.
