Elizabeth M. (Morton) Hersey October 21, 1946 August 26, 2013 Portland - Elizabeth M. (Morton) Hersey, 66, of Portland, passed away on August 26, 2013 at the Maine Medical Center, after a short illness. She was born in Portland, on October 21, 1946, the daughter of George and Dorothy (Ricker) Morton. Elizabeth grew up in Portland; attending Portland Schools. She really enjoyed her time being on the water of Casco Bay, where her father was a local fisherman and lobsterman. Elizabeth was an energetic and independent person, right up until the end. She worked hard to support her two sons, while living on Munjoy Hill in Portland. Elizabeth enjoyed types of work where she could interact with people, whether being a bartender for the American Legion Paul Malia, Post 161, a dispatcher for the Portland Police Department or answering phones for a local answering service. She was truly a people person. If there was going to be a party, Elizabeth wanted to be there. She was devoted to her family, enjoying the many cookouts and the camping trips. Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Erndale, Albion, Lance and Thomas, along with her sisters, Dot, Geneva and Adelaide (Gail). She is survived by her son, George Palmer and his wife Linda, of Old Orchard Beach and her son, Philip Palmer and his wife Sherry, of Gray. Elizabeth is also survived by her precious grandchildren; Kristin, Jina, Darcie, Deanna, Dustin, Barbara, Philip, Jr. and Tyler. She is also survived by six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A graveside committal service will be held for Elizabeth at 1:00PM on Friday, August 30, 2013 at the Brooklawn Memorial Park, 2002 Congress St, Portland.
