Elaine M. Thompson December 12, 1936 June 6, 2012 NORTH BERWICK - Elaine M. Thompson, 75, died peacefully after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, June 6, in North Berwick. She was born on Dec. 12, 1936, in Rockland, the daughter of Blaine and Elizabeth (Betty McTaggart) Thompson. She graduated from Williams High School in Oakland and as an x-ray technician from Thayer Hospital in Waterville. Elaine worked for several years as an x-ray technician at Gardiner Hospital, Gardiner, Maine and most recently for her daughter Jane at Carpe Diem, N. Berwick, Maine. She was also was involved in many organizations in leadership roles. Because of her love of fine crafts planning the many Christmas fairs was a favorite of hers. During her life where ever she lived she always became involved in helping others through various social clubs such as the Oakland Tuesday Club, Kennebec Mother's club, Gardiner Hospital Auxiliary, N. Berwick Garden Club, and for years ran a summer church kids camp at her home in West Gardiner. Elaine was also a licensed skin diver and often dove off the coast of Maine. She was predeceased by her former husband, Dr Ivan McLaughlin; both Dr. Ivan and Elaine are survived by their children; son Tom, and his wife Wendy of West Gardiner; and daughter Jane, and her partner Joyce Parent of North Berwick. Besides her children she is survived by her grandchildren. Christopher McLaughlin, and his wife Crystal of West Gardiner; Nicole Morin and her husband Ryan of Benton; Pascale Parent of North Berwick; and great-grandchildren Caleb, Landon and Brooklin ; sister Leda Thompson of Biddeford; sister Jennifer Soper and her husband James of Beaver Cove; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and many friends. She was also predeceased by her sister Barbara Marston and her husband Bert of Oakland. The last years of Elaine's life were made very special by her companion Frank Hale as they spent many wonderful and fun hours together. The family wants to extend a lovable thank you to two special care-givers; her companion Frank and her sister Leda. She so enjoyed the long rides in the country and of course the stops for her favorite ice-cream and all the many hours spent talking and laughing. A special thanks also to Francesca and the staff at Hospice. A celebration of Elaine's life will be held at _The Youth Enrichment Center @ Hilton Winn Farm.
