Obituary

December 28, 1947 May 21, 2015 EDWARD EVERETT ""NED"" INGRAHAM, II SOUTH PORTLAND - Edward Everett ""Ned"" Ingraham, 67, died unexpectedly on May 21, 2015 at Pine Point Rehabilitation Center where he was recovering from a fall. He was born in Mineola, NY on December 28, 1947, the son of the late Edward E. and Anna C. ""Nancy"" Wood Ingraham. Ned grew up in Huntington, NY and went to John H. Glenn Junior/Senior High School. He attended the Hun Preparatory School in Princeton, NJ, and went on to Columbia University where he received his Bachelor of Arts in 1970. He was involved and excelled in several sports throughout his school years and after, including football, basketball, lacrosse and softball. He was also musically talented and played guitar for many gatherings of friends and family. He loved music and was especially fond of The Kingston Trio, Gordon Lightfoot, Dan Fogelberg, Simon and Garfunkel, The Eagles, James Taylor and Fleetwood Mac. Ned was an avid reader and particularly liked biographies, sports and history books. Ned's interest in aviation was strongly influenced by his father, who was General Manager of LaGuardia Airport in New York for many years. Ned spent countless hours at the airport, and later worked there in the Marine Air Terminal for Butler Aviation while at Columbia. In 1971 he moved to Portland, ME with his family, where he worked with disadvantaged children in the Head Start program. He often spoke of this experience with great passion. Later, he was employed by Delta Airlines in Portland. During his years at Delta, he worked his way up from baggage handler, to ticket and gate agent in Portland, to assistant station manager in Reno NV, and finally as Director of Programming in Atlanta, where he was instrumental in developing Delta's first electronic seat selection system. Later he became Senior Vice President of Inflight Services at Braniff Airlines. After Ned relocated with his family to Northern Virginia, he had positions at MCI and was Director of the Washington, DC Emergency Management Agency. Following this he became an executive at RoamSecure, later Cooper Industries, working with the city of DC and the Homeland Security Agency post 9-11, monitoring and transmitting emergency alert systems. He retired from Cooper Industries but remained in the DC area until returning to Maine in the summer of 2014 to be near his family. His interest in sports never waned and he attended many sports events. Over the course of more than two decades, he and his son Ted visited every active Major League Baseball stadium in the United States. His older daughter Jen joined them for their last stadium trip in the summer of 2014. Ned also never lost his love of flying and world travel, and took many vacation trips with his family. He particularly loved the Caribbean and returned there many times. His children gave him his biggest joy in life and he never tired of spending time with them. Ned was predeceased by his father Edward (1977) and mother Nancy (1999). He is survived by daughters Jennifer (Ingraham) Horton and her husband Nicholas Horton, and Ashley (Ingraham) Doyle; his son Edward Everett ""Ted"" Ingraham, III; as well as his former wives and children's mothers Leslie (Tucker) Ingraham and Susan (McCarthy) Ingraham, with whom he remained close. Ned is also survived by his brother David Wood Ingraham and his wife Marcia and daughter Heather; sister Nancy Todd and her husband Sam, along with their children Lisa Michaels, Kathryn Todd and Sam Todd; and sister Laura Ruth Ingraham and her children Casey and Daniel. He also leaves behind his maternal aunt Marge Murray of Florida, and many cousins. The family would like to thank the physicians and staff at Pine Point Rehabilitation Center - Ned had done so well there under their guidance that he was scheduled to be discharged home the day he passed unexpectedly from an unrelated cause. The staff's kindness to him and to his children will never be forgotten. A Celebration of Ned's life will take place on Friday, May 29th. There will be an informal gathering of friends and family from 10:00 a.m. to noon, followed by a brief service at noon. These will take place at the A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Avenue, Portland, ME. After the service, all are invited to a reception at the home of Ned's daughter Ashley.
