Edward Robert Gillander "Ed" Januray 5, 1930 March 2, 2013 Edward Robert Gillander (Ed), 83, of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, passed away on March 2, 2013 after a battle with cancer. Edward was born in Portland, Maine on January 5, 1930. He graduated from Portland High School in 1948 and graduated Portland Junior College, in 1951. Edward was married on July 2, 1954 to Bertha Estelle Gillander, who passed away on June 7, 1987. He was also blessed to share the last 23 years of his life with Patricia Amabile Wilson of Portland, Maine. Edward worked as an office clerk for Texaco for over 20 years, and prior to that, worked for the Portland Pipeline. Ed was an avid outdoorsman. His hobbies included camping, hunting, fishing and picking up ""sea glass"" while walking on the local area beaches. An accomplished photographer, Ed, spent many of his days traveling and taking photographs of the landscapes and nature he so loved. He also enjoyed tracing his Scots heritage. This passion for Celtic history and music took Edward twice to Scotland and he attended Highland Games events throughout the US. Edward was a 40 year member of Hiram Lodge #180 A.F.& A.M.He also served as Executive Clerk and active member of the Board of Directors of the Highland Memorial Cemetery Association. Edward is survived by his son Randall Alan Gillander, daughter Jill Amy Gillander Cyr, grandchildren Ellen Elyse Gillander and Ross Randall Gillander, his loving partner Patricia Wilson, and her family to whom Eddie was a beloved father and grandfather, and countless other friends and family. Edward is preceded in death by his wife Bertha Estelle Collins Gillander, parents Maude Arlene and Eldon Robert Gillander, brothers Raymond and Clifford ""Buster"" Gillander and Arnold and Paul Herrick. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2013 from 1 - 3pm at A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Avenue, Portland, Maine. A memorial service will follow at the funeral home at 3pm, officiated by Pastor Ruth Morrison from the Cape Elizabeth United Methodist Church. A private internment will take place at Highland Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
