Dusty L. Grant November 2, 1953 March 2, 2012 Portland - Dusty Grant, 58, of Portland passed away on Friday, March 2, 2012 from complications from pneumonia after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Dusty was born on November 2, 1953 to Mr. and Mrs. Winston Grant of Bangor. In 1962, he was admitted to Pineland Center. He came to his home at Lincoln Street Group Home on January 10, 1979. He was one of the first people to ever reside at the group home. It was there that he lived the remainder of his life with seven fellow housemates and devoted staff. Dusty is survived by his sisters, Yvonne Webber of Bangor, Elaine Foster of Eddington, Teresa Hodgins of Brewer, Susan Ryder of Etna and a brother, Warren Grant of Holden. Dusty was a gentle, loving soul. Children and animals loved him. They could sense his innate kindness. Throughout the years, Dusty had experienced a lot, both good and bad. Throughout it all, he never stopped smiling and laughing. Music was so important to him. He could always be found singing along to his radio, which he took everywhere. He was also an excellent harmonica player. He enjoyed taking summer strolls with staff, listening to the birds and smelling flowers. He was very active, always wanting to be on the move. He enjoyed picnics at the park with his housemates, going for long car rides and loved coffee. Some of his favorite outings were to local coffee shops. He was a ""regular"" at Coffee By Design. The smell of coffee in the air always made him happy and excited. Dusty attended Woodfords Practical Life Program and CAFé‰ day program for more than 20 years. He was a longtime member of the Greater Grace Church. Summer activities included Maine Special Olympics and attending Pine Tree Camp. Dusty Grant was a kind, gentle person who will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. A memorial celebration of his life will be held on Friday, March 9, 2012 at 11:00AM at A.T.
